Poll: Are you buying an Ouya or a Wii Mini?

Poll Are you buying an Ouya or a Wii Mini

When the Android-powered, crowd-funded Ouya console arrives next year with a near-$100 starting price, it'll be the cheapest new game console at launch in ... well, ever. Of course, the big entrenched players aren't just taking this lying down -- Microsoft's got a $99 version of its Xbox 360, albeit with a subscription-based subsidy, and Nintendo today introduced the Wii Mini, a $99 Wii console with a fewer abilities than its slightly larger forebear (exclusive to Canada for now, but we doubt it'll stay that way). Neither of these initiatives is a direct response to Ouya, mind you, but the three choices will assuredly find themselves paired against the others in the minds of consumers.

As such, we can't help but wonder where you'll end up. Does Nintendo's revamped, smaller Wii get you all worked up, or is it Ouya's promise of open-source freedom that's doing it for you? Perhaps you've got a custom gaming rig that makes all other options look like Playskool by comparison? Let us know in the poll below!

Update: That whole "voting" part of the poll below seems to not be playing nice with our new look. Alas, we're working on a fix right this minute, and will let you know as soon as you're clear to vote. Terribly sorry about that!

Election in Catalan region tests Spain's unity

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) ? Voters in Catalonia on Sunday are choosing lawmakers for this wealthy Spanish region's parliament amid a threat from the Catalan leader to hold an independence referendum that would test the country's unity.

The regional government, led by Artur Mas, called early elections as part of a power struggle with the central government run by Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy centered on the size of Catalonia's contribution to national coffers.

If voters give Mas strong support on Sunday, he has pledged to hold a referendum asking Catalans if they would prefer to split from Spain at a time of deep financial crisis.

Rajoy has said that talk of independence is a side issue to the country's real problem, which is to find a way to create employment and address its deficit.

While Rajoy is immersed in combating Spain's worst financial crisis in decades, Mas claims Catalonia is being asked to shoulder too much of the tax burden and that it could do better if it separated and tried to become an independent member state of the European Union.

"Five years ago I was in favor of a federal model with Spain, but now we have seen that is not viable," said Miquel Angel Aragon, a 37-year-old aid worker. "I am in favor of independence."

Catalonia is responsible for around a fifth of Spain's economic output and many residents feel central government gives back too little in recognition of the region's contribution.

Madrid has traditionally said that simplifying the state's financial model by excluding overall costs such as defense only creates a distorted image of how taxation and spending are distributed.

A rising tide of Catalan separatist sentiment was spurred when Rajoy failed to agree to Mas' proposals to lighten Catalonia's tax load and hundreds of thousands of people turned out for a huge pro-independence rally in Barcelona on September 11.

The crisis has highlighted the high cost of running Spain's 17 semi-autonomous regions alongside a central government.

Catalans are viewed by most Spaniards as thrifty, hardworking people, and most have been shocked by how Catalonia's regional debt has swelled to ?42 billion ($54.4 billion) of the staggering ?140 billion debt ascribed to all of Spain's regional governments.

"We are not separatists, we want to remain part of Spain," said retired industrial designer Francisco Palau, 69, who emerged from a polling station alongside his wife. "We defend current plurality," he said, adding that setting up a new state and government "would be very expensive."

Just over 5.2 million people are eligible to vote for candidates to fill the 135-seat Catalan parliament that sits in Barcelona.

Childhood Obesity Battle Your Health Journal | Your ... - Len Saunders

From The Clarion Ledger?..

One tool in Mississippi?s attack on childhood obesity? The combi-oven.

A cross between a steamer and an oven, cafeteria managers say it can make those french fries crisp without all that waistline-expanding oil. Plus, its computerized brain can be programmed to cook almost anything, and it doesn?t stink up and splatter grease all over the kitchen. The only problem? One oven will cost a school about $18,000. And most schools actually need two to cook for hundreds of children.

But a foundation created by a retired physician has stepped in to help.

Dr. John Bower spent his career caring for Mississippians with kidney disease, setting up a nonprofit chain of dialysis centers. Using money from the sale of those centers, his Bower Foundation is now attacking one of the root causes of kidney disease ? obesity.

The foundation recently announced $900,000 in grants for schools to buy combi-ovens, with school districts required to put up half the cash. That should be enough to buy 100 ovens, equipping 50 schools. The foundation has already funded purchases at 84 schools.

?We ask the schools to remove their fryers when they put these products in,? executive director Anne Travis said. ?It?s been a great way to improve the nutritional content of the food.?

Federal money has paid for ovens at 59 other schools. But many districts, once they?ve gotten some outside money to introduce them to the appliance, have become believers and started paying for them on their own.

?We are ready not to wait on grants,? said Cynthia Coleman, child nutrition director in DeSoto County, Mississippi?s largest public school district.

Today, 11 DeSoto schools have combi-ovens. Coleman said that her goal is to install ovens and replace fryers in one school cluster each year. Besides the expense of buying the ovens, Coleman said more than $5,000 in electrical and plumbing work is usually required for installation. Because the oven is a steamer, it needs a water line connection.

For the foundation, the main benefit is a reduction in fat and calories. A half-cup serving of traditional fries has 88 calories and 4.6 grams of fat, while a half-cup of baked fries has 73 calories and 2.1 grams of fat. Over one school year, a large high school switching to baked fries could take 5.4 million calories out of the cumulative diet of students, with 900,000 fewer grams of fat served.

Angry Birds Star Wars HD Review - Video Games | Games Reviews ...

Finland, it seems, is developing a reputation for unleashing talent upon the world. This talent takes the world by storm, dominates for a while and then starts to lose its hold on the peoples? hearts. No, we?re not talking of Nokia, but of Rovio.

Rovio gained global fame almost overnight (well, not exactly) with their Angry Birds game, where the objective of the game was to flick birds across the screen using a slingshot to destroy the piggies? stronghold. Apparently the birds are angry because the pigs have stolen their eggs, but we wonder if they?re actually angry because they?re constantly getting tossed around the screen by millions of people around the world.?

As time goes on though, the game didn?t evolve much, except for changing the scenery of where you were tossing the birds. They went from obscure locales to Rio and then finally onto Space, the final frontier. Sadly, as they made this journey, people started to lose interest, with sales of every subsequent game dipping noticeably. However, when Rovio announced Angry Birds Star Wars, there was a sort of an electrifying buzz going around the air.?

We?ve spent a considerable about of time with the game, playing it over and over and we?d love to share with you our thoughts on it.?

Right off the bat, the game has the familiar elements of the way the birds are shaped, the same 2D cartoon-ish look. However, the Star Wars franchise too is strong in its presence. All birds are designed to very closely resemble characters from the Star Wars franchise, like the Red Bird, who now looks a LOT like Luke Skywalker. In the previous games, the Red Bird did nothing but made battle cries, however, in Angry Birds Star Wars, it wields a lightsaber to slice through any obstacle that might stand in its path. Lightsabers are bad ass, and angry birds with Lightsabers are just down right awesome. The birds in this new game have received a significant overhaul, with each of them now resembling one of the many main characters from the Star Wars franchise. We?ve got Obi-Wan Kenobi, R2D2 and C3PO (as part of the special bonus levels), the Rebel Pilot and even Chewie!?

Each bird is not only fashioned around these characters in looks, but also in terms of their abilities. The Obi-Wan bird can knock sizeable objects, or anything for the matter, by simply using the ?Force.? The Rebel Pilot bird is essentially the same as the tiny blue bird that would split into three even more useless birds, but this time, they actually dish out damage.?

On the surface, it doesn?t look like the gameplay has changed much, since you?re still tossing birds to destroy them piggies. However, now instead of looking like birds and pigs, they resemble Star Wars characters. The fact that World 1 is set in Tatooine and World 2 in Space (with the DeathStar looming in the background, clear as day). However, while the core concept remains the same, the execution has changed. We are now playing a hybrid storyline, once that blends signature Angry Birds goals with the classic Star Wars elements. The Pigs are now Stormtroopers, wielding laser blasters in some situations. There is even some direct referencing to some of the movies, like a particular Trash Compactor puzzle, a scene from The New Hope.?

We played the game on an iPad2 and didn?t find any hitches whatsoever. Scrolling, zooming and all other gestures associated with the game were absolutely fluid. It?s great how Rovio has managed to keep the performance of the game at such good levels even on old hardware. Another thing we really liked was that The Mighty Eagle, which was an in-app purchase how now been replaced with a laser shooting Millennium Falcon, and you won?t have to pay for it. The Millennium Falcon can be had by achieving a certain number of stars and at every tier, you receive a number of Falcons you can use. This is exceptionally great if you?re getting frustrated with a particular level and just want to get ahead without having to pay.?

Verdict

The bottom line is, we?ve not enjoyed an Angry Birds game this much since the original. Angry Birds Space was supposed to be the ?BIG HIT? for Rovio, but frankly, it didn?t impress us as much as we had hoped for. Angry Birds Star Wars on the other hand wouldn?t let us put the iPad down till we?ve gone through all the 80 levels the app ships with. There?s another episode on the way, based on Hoth from Empire Strikes Back which will be free. The bonus level where we get to play as C3PO and R2D2 are also very engaging.?

It is very evident that Rovio has paid a lot of careful attention to making sure that the merging of the two popular franchises is just right. As fans of Star Wars and Angry Birds, we don?t feel that a crime has been committed, or that Rovio hasn?t given a particular character their due. If you?ve got an Android device, an iOS device, MAC or Windows Phone 8, you can get the game from the following links:?

 • iPhone ? Rs. 55
 • iPad ? Rs. 170
 • Android ? Rs. 163.10
 • Mac OS X (10.6 or higher) ? Rs. 270
 • Windows Phone 8 ? Rs. 55
 • Windows 8 ? Rs. 250 (this must be purchased from the Store App within Windows 8)

Wall St Week Ahead: Political wrangling to pinch market's nerves

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Volatility is the name of this game.

With the S&P 500 above 1,400 following five days of gains, traders will be hard pressed not to cash in on the advance at the first sign of trouble during negotiations over tax hikes and spending cuts that resume next week in Washington.

President Barack Obama and U.S. congressional leaders are expected to discuss ways to reduce the budget deficit and avoid the "fiscal cliff" of automatic tax increases and spending cuts in 2013 that could tip the economy into recession.

As politicians make their case, markets could react with wild swings.

The CBOE Volatility Index <.vix>, known as the VIX, Wall Street's favorite barometer of market anxiety that usually moves in an inverse relationship with the S&P 500, is in a long-term decline with its 200-day moving average at its lowest in five years. The VIX could spike if dealings in Washington begin to stall.

"If the fiscal cliff happens, a lot of major assets will be down on a short-term basis because of the fear factor and the chaos factor," said Yu-Dee Chang, chief trader and sole principal of ACE Investments in Virginia.

"So whatever you are in, you're going to lose some money unless you go long the VIX and short the market. The 'upside risk' there is some kind of grand bargain, and then the market goes crazy."

He set the chances of the economy going over the cliff at only about 5 percent.

Many in the market agree there will be some sort of agreement that will fuel a rally, but the road there will be full of political landmines as Democrats and Republicans dig in on positions defended during the recent election.

Liberals want tax increases on the wealthiest Americans while protecting progressive advances in healthcare, while conservatives make a case for deep cuts in programs for the poor and a widening of the tax base to raise revenues without lifting tax rates.

"Both parties will raise the stakes and the pressure on the opposing side, so the market is going to feel much more concerned," said Tim Leach, chief investment officer of U.S. Bank Wealth Management in San Francisco.

"The administration feels really confident at this point, or a little more than the Republican side of Congress may feel," he said. "But it's still a balanced-power Congress so neither side can feel that they can act with impunity."

THE MIDDLE EAST AND EUROPE

Tension in the Middle East and unresolved talks in Europe over aid for Greece could add to the uncertainty and volatility on Wall Street could surge, analysts say.

An Egypt-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hamas came into force late on Wednesday after a week of conflict, but it was broken with the shooting of a Palestinian man by Israeli soldiers, according to Palestine's foreign minister.

Buoyed by accolades from around the world for mediating the truce, Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi assumed sweeping powers, angering his opponents and prompting violent clashes in central Cairo and other cities on Friday.

"Those kinds of potential large-scale conflicts can certainly overwhelm some of the fundamental data here at home," said U.S. Bank's Leach.

"We are trying to keep in mind the idea that there are a lot of factors that are probably going to contribute to higher volatility."

On a brighter note for markets, Greece's finance minister said the International Monetary Fund has relaxed its debt-cutting target for Greece and a gap of only $13 billion remains to be filled for a vital aid installment to be paid.

Still, a deal has not been struck, and Greece is increasingly frustrated at its lenders, still squabbling over a deal to unlock fresh aid even though Athens has pushed through unpopular austerity cuts.

HOUSING DATA COULD CONFIRM RECOVERY

Next week is heavy on economic data, especially on the housing front. Some of the numbers have been affected by Superstorm Sandy, which hit the U.S. East Coast more than three weeks ago, killing more than 100 people in the United States alone and leaving billions of dollars in damages.

The housing data, though, could continue to confirm a rebound in the sector that is seen as a necessary step to unlock spending and lower the stubbornly high unemployment rate.

Tuesday's S&P/Case-Shiller home price index for September is expected to show the eighth straight month of increases, extending the longest continuous string of gains since prices were boosted by a homebuyer tax credit in 2009 and 2010.

New home sales for October, due on Wednesday, and October pending home sales data, due on Thursday, are also expected to show a stronger housing market.

Other data highlights next week include durable goods orders for October and consumer confidence for November on Tuesday and the Chicago Purchasing Managers Index on Friday.

At Friday's close, the S&P 500 wrapped up its second-best week of the year with a 3.6 percent gain. Encouraging economic data next week could confirm that regardless of the ups and downs that the fiscal cliff could bring, the market's fundamentals are solid.

Jeff Morris, head of U.S. equities at Standard Life Investments in Boston, said that "it's kind of noise here" in terms of whether the market has spent "a few days up or down. It has made some solid gains over the course of the year as the housing recovery has come into view, and that's what's underpinning the market at these levels.

"I would caution against reading too much into the next few days."

Young teachers drawn to kids, career starts tricky

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) ? Jordan McNeil offered skills in high demand by public schools when she graduated from college with a dual major in special education and elementary education in 2011. She needed just one interview to find the right spot for her, a classroom where she and two assistants spend all day teaching eight autistic children.

A year into her career, she says the greatest satisfaction comes from the skin-tingling "light bulb moments" when someone's knowledge really opens. Moments "when something really clicks with one of my students and I can see it, that they've figured it out and they understand," she said. "It's the little moments that make it worth it."

But the hard truth is that by some estimates as many as a half of new teachers like McNeil will quit the classroom in their first five years. That turnover is costly, since states spend hundreds of millions of dollars every year to recruit, hire and prepare replacements.

The struggle to retain good teachers isn't getting easier. An annual survey of teachers last year by MetLife and Harris Interactive found the lowest level of overall job satisfaction in two decades. A survey this year of more than 4,000 New York City middle school teachers found 39 percent considered changing school or leaving teaching.

A 2007 study by California State University's Center for Teacher Quality found that teachers driven from the state's classroom most often cited bureaucratic frustrations like excessive paperwork, too many meetings, and frequent classroom interruptions. Satisfied teachers most often pointed to having a meaningful role in school decision-making, collaborative relationships with colleagues, adequate planning time, sufficient classroom materials, and supportive principals.

"When these conditions were in place, teachers often viewed their compensation as adequate and a reason for staying in the profession," the California study said.

The Associated Press talked with promising new teachers a year into their careers. All graduated from Elon University in May 2011. All were North Carolina Teaching Fellows, a program which annually selected 500 promising high school seniors to receive four-year scholarships allowing them to graduate with little or no college debt as well as extra professional coaching and networking. The fellows promised to work in North Carolina public schools for four of their first seven years after graduation. State lawmakers quit funding the program two years ago.

Three teachers, all 23 years old, agreed they loved their profession for those light bulb moments, but all found surprises in their first year.

Eric Hale's leaving the country for a while.

He landed his first job in North Carolina's second-largest school district that includes Charlotte. But he says in retrospect he didn't ask enough questions about whether he and the school would be a good match. The school hadn't hired a new teacher in years, and it was undergoing an extensive curriculum revamp that forced changed on veteran colleagues, he said.

"I spent at least 60 hours a week in the school and a large chunk of that time was spent filling out paperwork or going to meetings. I rarely got time in my classroom to prepare things for my students. With the amount of time I put in I should have seen greater results in my students' growth, but I didn't have time to focus on that because I was always catching up on pointless things I had to do for my school," Hale said. "The new teacher support was minimal and I received very little planning time. I was exhausted by the end of it."

He quit and spent much of the summer in Italy, trying to land a job teaching English. He's now aiming to teach in Thailand or South Korea, and he's back home to assemble to certifications and other documents required. He didn't burn bridges. When the successor who moved into his 4th-grade classroom at Blythe Elementary in Huntersville fell ill, Hale stepped back in to work as the substitute for several months. The school was closed for the Thanksgiving holiday this week and its principal unavailable for comment.

"When I left college, I thought I would be able to just close my door and teach how I thought was best. But over time your colleagues and the overall mentality of the school can change you," Hale said. "The year I had definitely stimulated that thinking of what are my options, where else can I go."

Hale says he always wanted to teach abroad and plans to try for a year, maybe two, while he has no family responsibilities, then get back to a North Carolina public school to make good on his scholarship before he's obliged to pay the money back.

"I do plan on coming back to the United States and teaching in schools. I still love it," Hale said.

Sam Jennings said his first year teaching math at one of the state's highest-rated high schools was "absolutely wonderful."

"I know friends that had an absolutely crazy experience, from discipline problems to teaching issues with content materials," Jennings said. "I fell into a department that supported me 100 percent, sat down every week with me and helped me plan lessons. They gave me the support I needed in the classroom to survive without having major issues."

But this being real life, nothing's perfect. The eager Jennings said his surprises at South Brunswick High School came from students, and fellow teachers, who seemed less motivated than he expected.

"I think in general, the society we live in today, things are just given to students. They don't have to work for it anymore," Jennings said. "They expect us, when we go into the classroom, just to give them a grade rather than them trying to earn it and work for it."

Jennings has seen peers who've become jaded, for example hearing colleagues confess that they planned to teach little or nothing on a half-day with shortened course meeting time.

"That disheartens you because, here I am, I've got a lesson planned. I'm teaching. I'm rocking and rolling and going to get every bit of that 30 minutes out of my students. Then you hear a teacher that doesn't necessarily care," he said.

McNeil teaches a year-round program at South Graham Elementary School, about 25 miles east of Greensboro. She arrived to a bare classroom and a lot of on-the-job training.

"You come in as a first-year and you're expected to do what a 20-year teacher is doing. That's a really hard thing just to step into and there's no such thing as an entry-level teaching position. We don't climb the corporate ladder," she said. "It's all at once. All right away."

Learning how to run a classroom was the biggest task, from how to handle behavior and enforce discipline in her special-needs students to working with adult assistants. She said she landed grants for four iPads, which helps her students focus and work more independently. Overall, she feels she found a good fit in a mid-sized school district, which she knew from student teaching days.

But the end of her first year on the job came with some drama with a large group of unhappy teachers leaving.

"We had huge turnover for this year, which has turned out I think to really help the school turn around. But I think it was disappointing for me to see so many people kind of disillusioned with their jobs and the school, the school system, whatever it was," McNeil said. "I think a lot of what I learned from it is not taking things personally and separating your professional from your personal and just really problem-solving instead of just getting down in the dumps and letting things burn you out."

Which 'habits' influenced you most? ? Business Management Daily ...

Stephen Covey, author of the landmark self-help book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, passed away July 16.

Scott Eblin, a leadership coach, shared his reflections on his favorites of the habits.

???Begin with the end in mind. This is especially important for long-term goals. ?By their nature, longer term goals are usually less clear and the path to achieving them is less certain. I?m still learning how to articulate them and then reverse engineer back from those goals in bite-size chunks that are actionable in the short run,? Eblin writes.

???Put first things first. ?With email overload and 24/7 connectivity via smartphone, the world is a lot different today than it was when The Seven Habits was first published in 1989,? Eblin writes. ?Technology makes it much easier for others to impose their urgencies upon you today than 23 years ago.?

???Seek first to understand, then be understood. ?A few years ago I learned that this habit was first articulated by St. Francis of Assisi. Props to Stephen Covey for bringing it back to modern day attention,? Eblin writes.

Talking foster care and adoption with Iowa KidsNet: Randall, Steven ...

Happy Thanksgiving! For today's National Adoption Month series, we have powerful reminders from three children, all who were adopted by the same family, about what it means to be thankful for family.

My Family is the Best

My mom is the best cook.
My dad is the best Nerf gun shooter.
My brother Steven is the best bike rider.
My brother Daniel is the best swimmer.
and I am the best diver.

I love my mom,
my dad,
my brothers
and my cousins.
We are the Best Family

My life was not always the best.
I had to move around a lot.
My first family could not take good care of me.
I had to be in foster care.
I Hated That!

I miss my first family.
I miss my sister from foster care.

My forever family is so nice to me.
I love my forever family,
My mom,
My dad,
And my brothers.

We Are The Best Family!!!

- Written by Randall, at age 7

My Early Years

"My terrifying early years. I was born in the year 2000 (that was in the 20th century in case you didn't know) in Winchester, Virginia, at Winchester Region Hospital. I am not aware of what time I was born because I no longer living with my birth parents. When I was 20 months old, my older brother Randy and I were taken away because of neglect. I spent the next few years in foster care. I moved 10 times within 2 years. When I was 4, I was placed with my current family Joy and Brian Linn.

When we came to live with the Linns, they had a little toddler who was also from foster care. They also had a teenage girl who was also in foster care. I was very hard to adjust at first, because I was scared I would have to move again. But the Linns became my forever family. Today I really enjoy playing sports and spending time with my family."

- Written by Steven, age 12

Why I Want a Foster Sister

"Hello, my name is Daniel, and I am 10 years old. I like playing with Legos, playing on the computer and watching TV. My brothers like to play sports all the time. I sometimes get bored playing sports with them. They are more into sports than I am. I would really like to have a foster sister to play with. I think having a foster sister would be fun. I will play with her and I will tell her about the Bible. I would always be kind to her. I could push her stroller when we go on walks. I will help her buckle her seatbelt and I will hold her hand when we cross the street. I will comfort her if she was sad. I know what it is like to not be with my birth parents. I will try to help her feel better. I will struggle up with her and give her one of my stuffed animals. I will try to cheer her up by acting crazy and making her laugh. I think people should be foster parents because then your kids will have friends to play with. Foster children should have nice homes with good foster parents. It is hard being away from your birth parents but having good foster parents makes it easier."

For Struggling Bum Marketers and Article Marketers? Article Steroids

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

>For Struggling Bum Marketers and Article Marketers... Article SteroidsClick Image To Visit SiteIt will take some work. Possibly 15-30 minutes per article. I also give instructions that you can copy and paste to have the entire technique outsourced for $10 or less. But compare this 15 minutes of work to the income you will receive when these "dud" articles start to rake in cash for you. I know you will find a measly 15 minutes well worth it!

When I saw the first video my first thoughts were "It?s a good idea but I?m not sure I can use it". Then I thought about it. Then I thought about it a bit more and I am now convinced that it would work for pretty much anyone in IM [Internet Marketing].

If you have an existing business you want to promote I think it?s particularly brilliant. I?ve not watched the other videos in detail but there are many ideas that I?m keen to put into practice. And Chad is a great guy. He has responded graciously to my queries and you can tell that he knows what he?s talking about. Highly recommended. Andrew Davidson Posted ? 07/26/2008

I?m absolutely confident that if you had my "Article Steroids" Videos at your disposal right now, you?d readily agree the techniques I teach will make you far more cash than the measly $27 price tag.

And that?s why I?m willing to let you have access to the entire program today for $4.95. This way, you can see for yourself how effective these strategies really are.

If you?re overjoyed like I know you will be, do nothing and you?ll be automatically billed for the remaining balance of $22.05 with nothing more to pay, ever.

However, if you?re not absolutely in love with this Article Steroids Kit, simply send me an email before the 7 is up and you won?t pay a dime. I?ll even refund you the $4.95.

This is one hell of a good idea for youtube marketing. I use youtube a lot to drive traffic and I can see how this can work very well. Great!

Hi Chad, Just finished watching Video 1. Excellent style of delivery and video quality. Above all, the information you presented on Video 1 is new to me and something I could implement right away. I can?t wait to see the rest as I?m sure more valuable information to come. Thanks, Daniel Posted ? 07/19/2008

taylor21 posted 07/11/2008 Good stuff, the videos played fine for me on Firefox. Guys, the income proof isn?t the important thing here, this is about generating traffic easily. Now times that by 50 to 10,000+ more visitors per month, that?s your income target. Everything is clear, this is very do-able.

Beyond Structured Settlements: Calling Out Governor Cuomo

Doubling down on a recent investigative article he co-authored about Executive Life of New York (ELNY) ("The Complete ELNY Saga "), Bill Coffin, Group Editor in Chief for Summit Business Media?s LifeHealthPro.com, has published a follow-up op ed article ("Governor Cuomo, I'm Calling You Out") in which he urges New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to "make this right. Fix ELNY before its payees must endure their harsh payment cuts."

In his most recent article, Coffin repeats a charge he and his co-authors made earlier: "The New York Liquidation Bureau [NYLB] .... is the cause of all this mess." For S2KM's summary of Coffin's NYLB allegations, see "NYLB Role in ELNY Disaster".

According to its Mission Statement: NYLB "acts for the Superintendent of Financial Services as the court appointed fiduciary and Receiver of impaired and insolvent insurance companies, to maximize assets and resolve liabilities, return rehabilitated companies to the marketplace or distribute the proceeds of the company in a timely manner to creditors."

Benjamin M. Lawsky is New York's Superintendent of Financial Services. Lawsky reports directly to Governor Cuomo and is currently a defendant in an ELNY class action lawsuit? filed November 8, 2012 by attorney Edward Stone and representatives of the Christensen & Jensen law firm.

Coffin's earlier co-authored ELNY article suggested the New York state government or the insurance industry could (and should) clean up the "ELNY debacle". In his most recent article, Coffin charges Governor Cuomo with personal responsibility.

"The simple truth", according to Coffin: "[Governor] Cuomo could fix ELNY if he wanted to. If he thought fixing ELNY would help his chances for a Presidential run in 2016, ELNY would already be fixed..... The insurance industry in the state could simply be ordered to pay that amount."

So why, Coffin asks, has Governor Cuomo not taken action? "Is it because [Governor] Cuomo cannot stomach the notion of making the rest of the industry in the state pay for the actions of an irresponsible few? ... [If] that is the case, then there is always the possibility of paying for ELNY with other general fund monies..... [A]t the very least, [Governor] Cuomo could ensure that any and all fines levied by the Department of Financial Services (Ben Lawsky) go first to ELNY before going anywhere else."

Coffin concludes his appeal to Governor Cuomo by observing: "There is a difference between doing the easy thing and doing the right thing. Show your constituents that you know the difference, or be called out as being just as much a part of this long-running failure as everybody else who has had a chance to fix ELNY and come up short."

For S2KM's complete and continuing reporting about the ELNY liquidation, see the structured settlement wiki.

Four year bans proposed under new WADA Code

(Reuters) - Athletes guilty of serious doping offenses will be suspended for four years from 2015 under proposals being considered by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), but there are no plans for a specific rule to ban offenders from the Olympics.

Currently, athletes found guilty of a first major doping offense are handed a two-year ban with any subsequent positive test incurring a life-ban.

The longer ban would be introduced for offenses that include the use of anabolic steroids, human growth hormone, masking agents and trafficking, according to a second draft of the 2015 WADA code which was reviewed over the weekend.

"It is clear ... there is a strong desire in the world of sport, from governments and within the anti-doping community to strengthen the sanction articles in the code," WADA President John Fahey said in a statement.

"This second draft has done that, doubling the length of suspension for serious offenders and widening the scope for anti-doping organizations to impose lifetime bans."

The draft does not, however, consider a former International Olympic Committee (IOC) rule regarding Olympic participation, which was ruled in non-compliance with the WADA Code in 2011 by sport's highest court, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The IOC rule, introduced in 2008, banned athletes from participating at the next Olympic Games if they had been suspended for six months or longer.

After the rule was ruled non-compliant, Britain was forced to overturn lifetime Olympic bans on their drug cheats.

"The rational is if more four-year sanctions are delivered, then there won't be any need for (the IOC rule) because the athletes will be missing the next Olympics," WADA spokesman Terence O'Rorke said by telephone from Montreal.

The new WADA Code draft also includes a proposal that to be prohibited, substances or methods must be performance enhancing, contrary to the spirit of sport or contrary to the health of athletes.

The proposed code will undergo further review between now and March 2013, when it will be presented to the WADA Foundation Board before a final draft is prepared for ratification at the world anti-doping conference in Johannesburg next November.

"Athletes must know that there is a heavy price to pay for intentional doping," Fahey said. "I am confident this draft will deliver that message loud and clear."

WADA also said its funding would be frozen for a second successive year at approximately $28 million in 2013.

"This freeze is not ideal for the fight against doping in sport," Fahey said. "It is widely accepted that doping is a major issue no longer restricted to the sporting world, and that it must be addressed by society as a whole."

(AP) ? French President Francois Hollande and the new Syrian opposition leader announced plans Saturday to install an ambassador to represent Syria in France.

The surprise move came after talks at France's presidential palace between Hollande and Moaz al-Khatib, head of the newly formed Syrian opposition coalition. France recognized the coalition days after it was formed on Sunday ? and is so far the only Western country to do so.

Hollande also confirmed that French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, who was at Saturday's talk, will raise the issue of lifting the EU arms embargo against Syria at a meeting Monday in Brussels among European Union foreign ministers.

Fabius has suggested supplying defensive weapons so Syrian rebels can protect themselves from attacks by the Syrian regime of President Bashar Assad.

More than 36,000 people have been killed since the Syrian uprising against Assad began in March 2011 and the new coalition is pressing for the means to defend Syrian civilians.

Since May 2011, the EU has imposed a ban on the export of weapons and equipment to Syria that could be used for "internal repression. "

France has taken the lead in efforts to oust Assad's regime, and Hollande reiterated Saturday that the Syrian National Coalition for Opposition and Revolutionary Forces is for France the sole representative of the Syrian people and a future provisional government.

Fabius will also press EU partners to recognize the coalition, Holllande said.

"''We have no hidden agenda," al-Khatib said in a bid to reassure other nations.

Hollande said al-Khatib, a preacher-turned-activist, reassured him that the coalition he leads seeks unity of the Syrian people and France aim in moving quickly is to "assure its legitimacy and credibility."

The United States and other EU nations have said they prefer to wait and see whether the coalition truly represents the variety of people that make up Syria.

The coalition replaces the fractious Syrian National Council as the main opposition group ? also recognized first by France ? although that group makes up about a third of the 60-plus members of the new coalition.

"There will be an ambassador of Syria in France," Hollande, with al-Khatib at his side, told reporters after the meeting. He conceded later that a proper locale must still be found to house him. The current Syrian Embassy building doesn't belong to France, he noted.

Al-Khatib quickly named him, Mounzir Makhous, describing him as "one of the first to speak of liberty" in Syria and, significantly, belonging to the Muslim Alawite sect of Islam, like Assad. Al-Khatib said Makhous holds four doctorate degrees.

It was widely believed that France might agree to the appointment of an ambassador, but not before a provisional government was formed. Al-Khatib suggested that a provisional government would come quickly.

Al-Khatib, with the coalition's two vice-presidents, Riad Seif and Suheir, met in London on Monday with representatives of Britain, France, Germany, the United States and Turkey and Qatar. Lifting the arms embargo was discussed there as well.

He returned to London on Friday to meet with Britain's foreign minister.
